More about Global Funeral Parlour
Global Funeral Parlour is the former Hung Hom Public Funeral Hall owned by Hong Kong government opened in 1978. It was renamed to Hung Hom Public Funeral Parlour in 1983. The Designation of Public Funeral Hall Order was also promulgated, ordering it was the only public funeral hall and providing low-cost funeral services.
However, owing to the persistent low utilization rate, the operational form changed to government tender since year 2002. Every five year would be an operation period.
2002-2007: Perpetual Funeral Parlour, HKD 19 million
2007-2012: Sai Sing Funeral Parlour, HKD 91.2 million
2012-2017: Grand Peace Funeral Parlour, HKD 278 million
2018-2023: Global Funeral Parlour, HKD 3 million
Consequentially, the rental for mourning halls in other private funeral
parlours had increased by 30% to 50%. The Funeral Business Association responded to the media's enquiry that casket services firms and other businesses in the sector were under pressure to raise prices.
In accordance with the Agreement signed by the Government and Global Funeral Parlour, Global Funeral Parlour shall provide low-cost basic funeral services to the needy. The low-cost funeral services shall cover a basic, essential and complete service for the disposal of a dead body, including but not limited to the transport of the dead body from the hospital or mortuary to the Funeral Parlour, procurement of a coffin for the dead body, conduct of funeral ceremony at the Funeral Parlour, delivery of the dead body from the Funeral Parlour to the final disposal site and the cremation fee.
Besides, The Cemeteries and Crematoria (Application for Permit) Offices of Food and Environmental Hygiene Department is located in UG/F of funeral parlour.
